A Prophetic Vision From The Back Forty (page 3)
The "HAVES" of the industrial world seem to be divided into 3 classes. On the one hand, we have the Bosses or the employers, and on the other hand we have the employees. Then we have the unemployed the third-class citizen. The bosses, it seems have an inherent right to make a profit; that is, bargain for employees' services for as little as they can get away with. The employee, if he wants to remain an employee, has to accept what he is offered. The unemployed, who really wants a job, has to accept what he is offered or remain unemployed and accept what handouts society has to offer. This is the competitive, free enterprise system.
To many, the modern idea of security, seems to depend on "Money", "Cash". Today, we need to have either a supply of cash or some form of Credit, for most everything we do or consume. For many, the greatest achievement in life is to be well-off, at least, comfortably fixed. This is our security.
Security is synonymous with Money. Always has been. The be-all and the end-all of life is to have economic security. Money is the be-all and the end-all of Life. Money seems to have become our "god". The most important thing in the life of any government and the politicians we elect to form them, is a balanced budget. This seems to receive priority ahead of the mandate of the peoples' needs. If we cannot balance our budget, then we experience a very grave situation. We then have a deficit to deal with.
Our monetary system, "Money Price System", a universal concept as old as civilization, is the basis of our economy. This concept applies to both the democratic and totalitarian states. Originally, its purpose was to serve as a medium of exchange, to replace the old barter system which, as population increased, became too cumbersome. As time went on, people. began to hoard these money tokens and then the idea of money as a commodity caught on. This idea enabled one to buy and sell these tokens for a profit for speculation (interest, dividend, usury, etc.).
Since money could be stored, hoarded, and invested, it became a commodity to be desired. This inevitably lead to all sorts of criminal activity in our communities and around the world. Money is now a symbol of prestige and power, producing poverty, slums, degradation of health, most crime, broken homes, street kids and wandering, homeless men and women.
This dual purpose of Money seemed to work fairly well for those people then in charge of a so-called scarcity society. Now that we are able and can produce and distribute an abundance of everything required to sustain life for everyone, our revered, sacred money system gets into trouble. Those who have, get. Those who have little or have not, tend to lose even that which they have.
According to the Scriptures as I read them, there will always be poor and suffering to care for as long as this present concept of the money price system exists as a way of doing business at home and around the world. Only by eventually designing and implementing a new and different concept and social mechanism to run the world's business of producing and distributing, that would be more in tune with the present and the coming age of the twenty-first century, can we ever hope to outlaw War and Poverty. Only after this has at least been started, can we save humanity as well as the rest of the ecosystem which we call Planet Earth.
Well, as is seen, if this second function of money produces so much misery, so much disaster and destruction, then why not scrap this function. All that we really need money for is to act as a medium of exchange, and an accounting device, so that goods and services can be produced and then distributed to the consumers, to us the people. Money then becomes only an accounting system for keeping track of production and distribution as well as the cost value of materials and labour expended in the production and distribution. We have many highly sophisticated accounting devices in use in most industries now.
In order to make this change-over in our system of operation, I see many changes to come. At present our so-called democracies have governments run by politicians, for politicians and the governing elite. This would need to be replaced by a government of the people, not some political party, but by the people and for the people -- Who else? This form of governing body would prevail for municipalities, towns, states or provinces, nations, and eventually around the world. All would be coordinated to operate as a unit when necessary. Always the will of the people in discussion would replace the old political party, politics as we have today. This would make the beginning of the co-ordination of the Family of Mankind.
I see Public (not government) ownership and control of all of our Natural Resources, including mines, forests, water and land all to be utilized for the public benefit. I also see Production and Distribution of Goods and Services, including Power, Transportation, Health and Education, all owned and operated for the Public by public appointed technical and engineering help as needed. All of this would be designed with the Public Welfare occupying the Bottom Line.
For the first time, I see a true "Cashless Society". Every person, as a right of being a citizen, would receive a guaranteed minimum income "credit" assigned to a "Credit Account" assigned to that person at the time of birth, or at the time of citizenship acceptance and stay in his or her name as long as he or she lives or until leaving the country. There would be no restrictions as regards racial origin, religion, skin colour or sex. This, then, makes each of us members and shareholders in a true neighbourhood, fellowship society.
I see everyone who is physically fit, employed at a job best suited to his or her natural talents, abilities and training. Employees would receive a "Credit Income", keyed to the nature, type of work and acquired skill, which would be directly deposited to his or her "credit account". In order to prevent hoarding and its attendant evils, it is possible that each person's credit account would be closed out and renewed every two years or so. The same precaution may also apply to Industrial Accounts.
It would be necessary, as it is now, for everyone to be registered at birth and given a card bearing name, and other identifying symbols as is deemed necessary. Each card would bear a number as well as a "Bar Code". This card would be used to facilitate all purchases, including Health, Education, Travel and Communication. This card then works just like a bank card does now, with the exception that there would be no user fee.
It must be apparent that with this one card, all other credit cards, visas, health cards, etc., would be redundant.
I see possible restrictions applied to certain goods and services as deemed necessary, if in the public interest for health and/or survival. This may also apply to certain antisocial practices.
I see that our industries are no longer producing devices and substances designed to kill and destroy ourselves and our environment. I see that when we, the people, have control of all industry, with the help of competent technicians and scientists, then the air, the land, and the waterways are no longer being polluted.
I see a great reduction in crime rate as well as the end to poverty and war.
I see other Nations following our example as we are able to extend our hands in true friendship. We are no longer frightened of the enemy and no longer need to build superior armies to defend ourselves. We have, at least, learned to understand him and his needs. We understand now that we ignorantly lead him astray by our misguided philosophy of the virtue of competition for profit.
